Kitchen Remodel Company Brings Function to Beauty

By / Kitchen Remodel / Comments Off on Kitchen Remodel Company Brings Function to Beauty

When you remodel any room in the house, you want it to look awesome. But when you remodel a room as important as the kitchen, it needs to look good and work well.  After all, a kitchen is as much a workroom as a hobby garage. You need room to store the tools of the trade, do your work, and share your masterpieces. Any kitchen remodel company worth their salt (pun intended) can install attractive cabinets and counters. But it takes a special kitchen remodel company to create a space that’s a treat for the eye and the cook. Inspired Remodels does it on a regular basis. Here’s how.

kitchen remodel company creates floor plan based on triangle

The Kitchen Triangle

No, the kitchen triangle isn’t a sordid affair between the lime, salt, and chili powder. The kitchen work triangle refers to the arrangement of the major work stations in the kitchen. That’s the sink, the refrigerator, and the stove/oven. Each makes up one point of the triangle. No leg of the triangle should be more than 9 feet long. The sum of all three sides should be somewhere between 13 and 26 feet to be ideal. There are just too many steps if it’s larger.

This is some serious stuff. It’s based on time-motion studies on the most effective way for a one-cook kitchen to achieve true efficiency. While today’s kitchens often have more than one cook, the kitchen triangle or it’s cousin, the kitchen zone still creates a game plan for efficiency. The kitchen zone concept creates zones for food preparation, cleaning, baking, and cooking. These zones usually end up in a variation of the kitchen triangle.

Kitchen Remodel Company Deploys Kitchen Triangle

Putting the Triangle into Action

Take a look at the lovely kitchen above. Pay particular attention to the stove in relation to the refrigerator. Next, see how the fridge is across from the sink?  Can you see the triangle in this kitchen?

Now can you see it? It might have been tempting to use the space next to the cooktop for the refrigerator and use the refrigerator wall to create a large work space. But the savvy kitchen remodel company understands that fridge door needs to be opened and closed several times during meal prep.

Had it been located next to the stove it would have saved steps, but it would have been awkward.

A functional kitchen flows. You move smoothly and without friction from one area to the next.

Can you see yourself working in this kitchen?

And speaking of working, notice the work area station to the right of the stove. When you take a hot pan out of the oven, there’s a place for it.

There’s ample room for the traditional 3 step breading station. And it looks great!

Hello Spring – Interior Remodeling Company Updates Whole House

By / Bathroom Remodel, Home Improvement, Kitchen Remodel / Comments Off on Hello Spring – Interior Remodeling Company Updates Whole House

Spring cleaning time is here. While some people are cleaning out closets and tidying up the garage, others are completely changing their entire home. Inspired Remodels, an Orange County interior remodeling company, is here to help. We won’t scrub the bathroom windows, but we will take tired old bathrooms and make them new again. Like spring flowers bring a breath of freshness to the yard, Inspired Remodels breathes new life into tired kitchens and bathrooms.

Interior Remodeling Transforms Cottage to Contemporary

The challenge: take a Laguna Beach cottage and transform it to a modern residence. The interior remodeling company: Inspired Remodels and brothers Jason and Joe Mueller. The result: a home with a tranquil, neutral hotel vibe that’s incredibly inviting.

interior remodeling company uses contrast of light and dark in contemporary bathroomIn one bathroom, grey hexagon tile is cooling and soothing. Like a high-end hotel bathroom or a luxury spa, this tile sets the tone for the rest of the room.

The surface is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it is calming in its neutrality. That’s because neutral doesn’t necessarily mean vanilla. This floor is a great example of using dark and light tones as neutrals.

Contemporary beauty!

White subway tile contrasts with the dark wood ceiling and continues the spa feel to the room.

The clean contemporary lines continue with chrome fixtures, accessories, and vanity pulls. Integrated sinks are spacious while being incredibly easy to keep clean. Contemporary gets practical while keeping the flair and refinement of a jet-setting hotel.

Privacy glass in the windows allows light to stream into the room and is complemented by the frosted detail on the mirrors.

interior remodeling turns cottage kitchen into contemporary

Contemporary Kitchen Remodel

Making good use of space was crucial to this kitchen remodel. Ingress and egress with sliding glass doors floods the room with natural light and artfully incorporates the natural beauty of the surrounding area. Light makes small spaces appear larger and this room makes the most of natural and artificial light.

The dark wood floor against the white and grey cabinets give the room a clean and finished feeling. This contemporary kitchen combines refined quiet and a clean sense of style.

The stainless appliances and chrome fixtures amplify the cool, contemporary look and banish any remainders of old, cottage style. An island and ample counter space provide plenty of room for multiple cooks. The island doubles as a base for entertaining as well as a spot for quick morning breakfasts.

This room works hard and looks good.

Contemporary Bathrooms

Two additional bathrooms were part of this total interior remodeling job. Using the same design elements as in the other rooms, two bathrooms were transformed into luxe, spa-like spaces.

Large hexagonal tiles on the wall continue the pattern from the floor in the first bathroom. Two dual outlets under the mirror provide all the power you need for charging electronics and energizing personal grooming appliances.

Chrome and brushed nickle accents and fixtures cement the contemporary vibe.

As in the kitchen, dark wood and light stone are the ying and yang that make this room look so complete.

The final bathroom continues the combination of dark and light to create a comfortable and contemporary space.

Dark wood floors contrast with light cabinetry as in the other rooms. The white cabinetry once again uses light to make the room appear more spacious. Contrasting wall tiles and countertop stone keep the room from appearing too vanilla.

Dark accents on cabinetry, mirrors, and lights provide just enough pops of color to keep the mostly monochrome palette feeling lively.

Spring cleaning this room will be a breeze in years to come. Hard surfaces resist water stains and easily wipe clean.

Don’t Hire Just any Home Remodel Contractor

By / Home Improvement / Comments Off on Don’t Hire Just any Home Remodel Contractor

When you’re ready for a new kitchen, bathroom, fireplace or garage door, you’re ready for it now. It’s easy to go with the first home remodel contractor that gives you and estimate. But it’s not a good idea. Don’t hire just any home remodel contractor, hire the best for the job you need done. Here’s how.

shop around for kitchen remodel company

Do your research

Have you spent hours looking at appliances, flooring, fixtures and cabinets? Well, prepare to spend the same amount of time researching your contractor. First, start with friends, family, and neighbors that have actually used a contractor.

See a contractor’s sign in a yard? Don’t be afraid to ring the doorbell.  Ask the homeowner what they think about the work being done. If the neighbor isn’t home, leave a note with your name and number. Just ask for a reference.

When checking references, it’s a good idea to talk to people that have had similar work done.  Because, a contractor may be fabulous at removing a wall to open up a living area but not so great when it comes to the plumbing required for a bathroom remodel.

a home remodel contractor bid should include plans

Compare apples to apples

When you are getting the three quotes everybody tells you to get, make sure they are quoting for the same work. Unless you’ve provided each contractor the exact specifications for the work you want done, (drawings, materials to use, and specific product names) each home remodel contractor is making assumptions.  The price quoted reflects these assumptions.

Know exactly what is included in the quote and the allowance for overage. One quote for a bathroom may appear to be considerably lower, but upon inspection may require the homeowner to purchase flooring, fixtures and/or lighting.

If you want custom cabinets, make sure all quotes include custom cabinets of the same quality and made of the same materials.

Some remodeling work requires a permit from the local government. If your job requires a permit, make sure the bid includes any permit fees and specifies that the contractor is responsible for the permit. A contractor that asks a homeowner to pull a permit is a red flag. It’s a sign the contractor has a problem with their license. And speaking of licenses, be sure to check.

check the license of your home remodel contractor online

Check licenses and insurance

Once you’ve decided that a contractor can do the work you want at a budget you can afford, it’s time to do more research.

Fortunately, the State of California makes it easy to check licenses. Just go to https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/CheckLicense.aspx and type in the name of the contractor. For example, type in Inspired Remodels and you get a page that tells you the license number and that the license is active. Just click the license number and discover the status of the contractor’s bond, workmen’s compensation insurance and the history of both.

Don’t hire a contractor that isn’t bonded and doesn’t carry worker’s compensation insurance. If the contractor’s employee gets hurt on the job at your house, you can be liable if worker’s compensation insurance isn’t in place. It’s not a risk you want to take.
